Diabetic Foot Ulcer and Neuropathy Treatment in Hyderabad

A diabetic foot wound that refuses to heal rarely has a single cause. One visit assesses the wound, the nerves, the circulation and the diabetes behind it, and ends with a written plan.

  • FDA-cleared DPNCheck nerve test on site
  • Diabetologist, neurologist and nephrologist
  • Written plan in the same visit

Individual plans depend on clinical assessment. Outcomes vary from person to person.

The wound is only one part of the picture

Reduced sensation hides injuries, circulation decides how fast tissue repairs, pressure reopens what has started to close, and blood sugar and infection work in the background. Each is assessed in the same visit, because treating one without the others is how wounds stall.

  1. Diabetes
  2. Nerve changes
  3. Reduced sensation
  4. Unnoticed pressure or injury
  5. Foot ulcer

The usual sequence, not a rule: neuropathy does not always lead to an ulcer, and some nerve symptoms have causes other than diabetes.

The wound

Size, depth, how long it has been open, the skin around it, signs of infection, and what has been tried.

The nerves

Sensation and protective sensation, with nerve conduction testing where it adds information.

The circulation

Pulses, skin temperature and colour, with vascular imaging when indicated.

Pressure, footwear and sugar

Where the weight lands, what the shoe rubs, and how the diabetes and kidneys are doing.

Sound familiar?

A wound that will not close

A blister, cut or ulcer on the foot that is still open after two weeks, or one that heals and comes back in the same place. With diabetes, a foot wound is assessed promptly, not watched at home.

Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) treatment in Hyderabad

Diabetic peripheral neuropathy is damage to the long nerves that run from the spine to the toes. It builds slowly over years of raised blood sugar and is one of the most common complications of diabetes.

The symptoms people notice, burning, tingling, numbness and shooting pain, are only half the story. The more dangerous change is the one nobody feels: the loss of protective sensation. A stone in a shoe, a tight strap or a small cut can go unnoticed for days. That is how a sore becomes an ulcer, and why the nerves and the skin of the foot are always examined together here.

How the symptoms are described

  • Burning feet: hot, as if standing on warm sand
  • Pins and needles in the toes and soles that come and go
  • Electric jolts, often in the evening
  • Numbness: feet that feel wrapped in cotton
  • Reduced sensation: harder to feel the ground, temperature or small injuries
  • Worse at night: even the weight of a bedsheet can be uncomfortable

No pain does not mean normal nerves. Many people have reduced sensation with few symptoms at all. Changes in the shape or colour of the foot, cold feet or a previous foot complication are also reasons for an assessment.

What the assessment covers

  • Examination of the skin, pressure points, pulses, temperature and colour
  • Sensation and protective-sensation testing
  • Nerve conduction testing with DPNCheck where it adds information
  • Blood tests for B12, thyroid and kidney function where indicated
  • Review of the diabetes and current medicines, then a written plan

Other causes are checked too

The same symptoms can come from problems that have nothing to do with diabetes, several of them treatable: vitamin B12 deficiency, thyroid disorders, kidney disease, alcohol, certain medicines and nerve compression in the spine. The assessment screens for these, with a neurologist and a nephrologist on the team, so the plan is built on the actual cause.

Nerve conduction test (DPNCheck) in Hyderabad

DPNCheck is a US FDA-cleared, point-of-care nerve conduction device. It measures the sural nerve at the ankle in a few minutes, during the consultation, and compares the result with reference values for age and height. The result is a number, not an impression.

The test feels like a brief tap or tingle. No laboratory visit, no second appointment, no waiting for a report.

What it does, and does not, tell us

It gives the consultant an objective measure of how well one nerve is conducting, to set beside the examination and the history. On its own it does not diagnose neuropathy, say why a nerve is damaged, or replace clinical judgement. It informs the plan; it never writes it.

Non-healing diabetic foot ulcer treatment in Hyderabad

A dressing treats the surface. A wound that will not close needs the reasons underneath it found and dealt with, one by one. Usually more than one is at work.

Why healing stalls

  • Blood sugar that stays high
  • Pressure landing on the same spot
  • Reduced blood flow to the foot
  • Infection in or under the wound
  • Kidney disease and other illness
  • Footwear that rubs or does not fit

What the team does

  • Wound assessment and a written care plan
  • Offloading and pressure relief, including footwear
  • Treatment of infection when it is found
  • Circulation check, with vascular imaging when indicated
  • Diabetes and kidney review, medicines adjusted where needed
  • Foot-care education and follow-up

A blocked artery, deep infection or surgery is referred to the right specialist hospital and coordinated under one plan; those procedures are not performed here. Bring previous treatment records, reports and wound photographs.

Frequently asked questions

What is diabetic neuropathy?

Nerve damage caused by years of raised blood sugar and the changes it brings to the small blood vessels that feed the nerves. It usually begins in the feet and lower legs, where it is called diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN), and it affects sensation, balance and the skin.

What are the symptoms of diabetic neuropathy?

Burning, tingling, pins and needles, numbness and sudden electric pain, often worse at night. Some people notice cold or "asleep" feet, or that they cannot feel heat, cold or small injuries. Some notice nothing at all, which is exactly why examination matters.

Can diabetic neuropathy be reversed?

Badly damaged nerves may not recover fully. Care focuses on controlling the cause, relieving symptoms and protecting the feet from injury. Outcomes vary from person to person and cannot be guaranteed. Treatable causes, such as B12 deficiency, are checked and addressed.

Why do diabetic foot ulcers take longer to heal?

Because several things slow healing at once: high blood sugar, pressure on the same spot, reduced circulation, infection, kidney disease and footwear that rubs. The wound, the circulation and the diabetes are assessed together so that each one is addressed.

How long does the DPNCheck test take, and does it hurt?

A few minutes, during the same visit. A small sensor is placed at the ankle and most people feel only a brief tap or tingle. The consultant reads the result alongside the examination.

What should I bring to the evaluation?

Recent HbA1c and blood sugar reports; kidney, B12 and thyroid reports if available; previous wound or nerve reports and scans; a list of current medicines with doses; and the shoes you wear most.

Do you see people whose nerve symptoms are not caused by diabetes?

Yes. Burning, tingling or numb feet can also come from B12 deficiency, thyroid disorders, kidney disease, alcohol, some medicines or a pinched nerve in the spine. The assessment checks for these too, with a neurologist on the team.

Is this the same clinic as Boston Diabetes?

Yes. Boston Limb is the foot and nerve care service of Boston Diabetes, at the same address in Gachibowli. Boston Renal, for kidney care, is part of the same family.

Can neuropathy and a foot ulcer occur together?

Yes. Reduced sensation can make foot injuries harder to notice, and some people have both neuropathy and a foot wound. A clinician can assess the factors relevant to each person.

Should I seek an assessment if a wound is not improving?

Yes. A persistent or worsening foot wound should be assessed promptly rather than managed only at home.

Can I come in for numbness or burning feet without an open wound?

Yes. These symptoms can be discussed at an assessment even when there is no visible wound.

Will every foot ulcer heal with treatment?

Healing depends on circulation, infection, wound characteristics, pressure and underlying health. No outcome or timeline can be guaranteed.
